Instrument Helicopter Training
Adding an instrument rating to any pilot’s certificate is one of the smartest decisions any pilot can make. An instrument rating will allow pilots to fly in weather that only instrument regulated flights can be performed. In addition, The training received while acquiring an instrument rating will also make you a better pilot as you learn to make better use of your instrumentation and navigation equipment. The awareness gained from instrument training can also be thought of as safety cushion for should a situations arise such as unexpected instrument meteorological conditions (IMC). While most pilots acquire a commercial rating first, an instrument can be obtained after you acquire your private pilot’s license and have logged a total of 50 hours of cross country flying greater than 50nm as pilot in command (PIC).
During your instrument training at Elite Helicopters, you can expect to fly on average 48 hours prior to taking your oral test and check-ride. For the majority of your instrument flight training, you will be flying in our Robinson R-44 Raven II and to save cost you can spend up to 20 hours of experience in a FlyIT simulator. Our R-44 Raven II is fully IFR equipped with instrumentation necessary for your training including a Garmin 430W GPS, King KCS55A HIS, artificial horizon, and Garmin GTX327 transponder.
